Client Objectives:

The Wiltshire PCT wanted to modernise its health and care services for the Malmesbury community and to ensure that as many services as possible were retained locally.

Development Solution:

Brackley worked with The Orders of St John Care Trust on the successful campus redevelopment of a former hospital in Malmesbury Wiltshire. The new 2,647 sq m healthcare campus provides:

  • An 80-bed care home and day centre with 40 new nursing care beds including six NHS beds for intermediate and palliative care
  • A new community health facility for the local GPs
  • 28 new extra care apartments for older and disabled people.

The Trust owns and operates the care home and day centre. The GPs formed a limited company to hold the property and to be responsible for the development costs. Brackley purchased the land for the extra care apartments for construction and sale through Stepnell. Delivery of the project required the participation and agreement of all four stakeholders, the PCT, The Orders of St John Care Trust and the GPs. Construction started in January 2008 and was completed in June 2009.
